JPC garnered tons of earned media coverage for the Chicago Crime Commission during Tri-State Gang Summit. Below is a story that ran on CBS2 Chicago. ABC7, NBC5, WGN, Univision, Crain's Chicago Business, and the Associated Press all covered the event. The Chicago Crime Commission retains JPC for their unique ability to generate earned media in the highly competitive Chicago Media Market.

PAY TEEN MOTHERS TO STAY IN SCHOOL(getting to the root)

Greetings Mr Pastuovic, I read about your work with the Chicago Crime Commission and gangs. Well done!
I delivered mail into a housing project for 2 years. On the 1st of the month the line of young mothers waiting for me was long. For 20 minutes I gave out welfare checks, food stamps, medicaid cards and letters from prison(only letters written in pencil). Then I would drive down the street to the next complex; no welfare checks, no letters from prison. Theory; Crime=education level of the mother(+absentee' fathers). Before I was a mailman I was a CPA on La Salle St; a lot of digging and searching. Recently, I dug and searched the backgrounds of the men killed in confrontations with police(Laquan McDonald, Freddie Gray, Michael Brown...) over 90% had teen mothers who dropped out of school. Sadly, the next young man to meet tragedy in a confrontation with police will have a teen mother who dropped out. The Welfare Reform Act of 1996(vetoed twice) had its pluses and minuses. The roles were reduced 60%. However, 4 million are still on the roles. A teen mother under 18 is required to stay in school to collect her check($150-$300 depending on the state). Because of generational welfare history these 4 million are the most difficult to change. The welfare check is not enough to keep them in school. The poorest of the poor are getting poorer. I believe the government should pay teen mothers enough to stay in school(free onsite daycare+attendance bonus+graduation bonus). Education is the answer. I hope you will consider these recommendations in your gang and crime work. Thank you for your time.
